Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kan established a strong foundational understanding of the agricultural sector by graduating from an agricultural high school (tarım lisesi) before advancing to higher education. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics from Ankara University in 1999. He continued his academic progression at the same institution, completing his Master's degree with a thesis focusing on pesticide use problems and solutions in greenhouse vegetable cultivation in 2002. In 2011, he obtained his PhD in Agricultural Economics from Ankara University, conducting his doctoral dissertation on the use and impact of geographical indications in local economic development, with a specific focus on the Akşehir cherry, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Bülent Gülçubuk. To broaden his administrative and interdisciplinary perspective, he later completed a second Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Anadolu University in 2023. He currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kırşehir Ahi Evran University, a title he has held since 2025. Prior to this professorship, he worked as an Assistant Professor and Associate Professor within the same department, consistently contributing to the Division of Agricultural Policy and Extension. His leadership extends to significant administrative responsibilities; he has served as the Head of the Major Department of Agricultural Policy and Extension, Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, and Co-head of the Department. Demonstrating an active role in academic publishing, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Integrated Sciences and Agriculture, and acts as an editorial board member for various international and national academic journals. His primary research deeply explores rural development, agricultural policy, behavioral economics, climate change adaptation, and geographical indication systems. Aligning with modern academic trends, he actively applies advanced socio-psychological modeling frameworks—such as the Theory of Planned Behavior, the Norm Activation Model, and the New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) scale—to evaluate agricultural adoption and environmental behaviors. He also incorporates gender-sensitive research methodologies into value chain and rural development studies, utilizing frameworks like WEAI, A-WEAI, the Harvard Analytical Framework, and the Moser Framework. Committed to rigorous quantitative methodologies, he completed a comprehensive seven-month Data Analysis School program covering psychometrics and artificial intelligence tools. He executes complex analytical models, including Structural Equation Modeling, Grey Relational Analysis, Fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis, and Agent-Based Modeling, utilizing modern software environments such as R, Python, Jamovi, and SPSS. Throughout his career, Prof. Dr. Kan has coordinated and contributed to numerous high-impact national and international agricultural projects. His international portfolio includes collaborations with prominent organizations such as FAO, ICARDA, CIMMYT, and Horizon 2020 on initiatives related to wheat landraces, ecosystem services, and sustainable agriculture. Nationally, he has directed extensive impact evaluation studies for rural development programs, young farmer grant support initiatives, and poverty analyses across rural agricultural enterprises.
