Jack Wilkin

I am a marine micropalaeontologist and palaeoclimatologist with a PhD from the University of Exeter, specialising in the use of marine microfossils (esp. diatoms) to reconstruct past oceanographic conditions. My research has focused primarily on the Southern Ocean and sub-Antarctic regions. My PhD investigated palaeoceanographic conditions and palaeoproductivity around South Georgia since the late deglacial, using marine diatoms, foraminifera and geochemical proxies. I am currently continuing research on Southern Ocean sediment cores, including a 45 ka record from the Scotia Sea. I also have experience working onboard research ships. I am looking to become involved in existing Antarctic or Southern Ocean research projects, or to develop new collaborations around suitable samples, datasets or research questions. I am particularly interested in projects where my expertise in marine micropalaeontology and diatoms could complement existing geochemical, sedimentological, or other palaeoclimate approaches. I am open to collaborations at any stage, from contributing specialist analytical expertise to developing a research question and publication collaboratively.
