I am an Associate Professor of Physiology at Koç University School of Medicine, specializing in neuromodulation and clinical electrophysiology techniques, autonomic nervous system physiology, and brain–body interactions. My research integrates electrophysiology, neurostimulation (tDCS/tACS, peripheral stimulations), movement and breathing physiology to explore how cortical activity, autonomic regulation, and behavior interact across both everyday and extreme physiological states and how we can modulate it. I currently lead multiple interdisciplinary projects in collaboration with sports sciences, psychology, and engineering. These include studying the neurophysiology of prolonged breath-holding in professional freedivers using EEG, heart rate variability, and electrodermal activity; investigating respiratory modulation of cortical excitability; and developing breathing‑synchronized tDCS, and initiated human trials combining slow deep breathing with closed‑loop stimulation. My group also conducts studies on the effects of tDCS on tinnitus, cybersickness, balance performance and mood, and we have recently incorporated IMU‑based movement analysis into our protocols. I worked for many years in neurosurgery as an intraoperative neurophysiology specialist, gaining extensive expertise in multimodal neuromonitoring (SEP, MEP, EEG, EMG) and the electrophysiological evaluation of spinal cord and brain pathways during surgery. This clinical background continues to shape my scientific approach and remains a key area of my research . My long‑term research goal is to develop integrative models of how respiration and autonomic function shape perception, cortical dynamics, and performance—ultimately enabling novel, physiology‑informed neuromodulation strategies.
