
Sara Khatun (15th century) was the first female diplomat and mediator in Azerbaijan and the Muslim East. She rose to prominence as a senior advisor under her son’s rule, Uzun Hasan, the leader of the Azerbaijani state of Ag Qoyunlu. Skillfully negotiating with foreign dignitaries and state rulers, Sara Khatun worked to ensure peace and regional stability.
