THE NEEDS OF YOUNG PEOPLE AND THE CHALLENGES SCHOOLS FACE IN ENSURING THE WELL-BEING OF STUDENTS IN WARSAW’S SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Problemy Opiekuńczo-Wychowawcze, t. 10/2025

The aim of this article is to present the role of the school environment in ensuring student well-being and to highlight significant needs and issues reported by youth. School conditions (environment and safety), interpersonal relationships, self-fulfillment and health constitute the fundamental pillars of student well-being, as evidenced by survey results related to the climate of Warsaw’s high schools. Students’ opinions indicate that the organization of a mental health support system at school has a practical, positive impact on their well-being. However, in some institutions, young people still experience difficulties related to abusive attitudes and communication from teachers. What students need is under-standing and acceptance, and the creation of a safe space for integration. The key challenge in ensuring student well-being is primarily relational in nature, although systemic changes are also necessary.
