
Leadership is one of essential factors in the education quality improvement at Islamic school. As a top leader, headmasters are responsible for educational practices at the institutions and their leadership effectiveness determines the institutional quality. This research sought to reveal the leadership models used by Headmasters at selected Islamic School in Municipal of Banda Aceh and the effectiveness of such models to upgrade the schools’ education quality. The research used qualitative approach with multi sites study designs and involved some research subjects, including headmasters, vice headmasters, registrar officer, and teachers. Data were obtained by using nonprobability sampling techniques, by means of interview, observation, and documentation. Soon afterwards, data were analyzed by reduction techniques, data presentation and verification. To assess data reliability, the researcher used credibility, dependability, and confirmability standard. The research findings revealed that in order to improve education quality, headmasters employed various leadership models, such as participative leadership models and delegative leadership models. Moreover, the school accreditations designate the headmasters’ leadership effectiveness and the accreditation is quality standard for every school.
