Born in Istanbul in 1968, Hasan ONGAN completed his primary, secondary and high school education in İzmir-Karşıyaka. He graduated from the Physics Department at Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ) in 1993 and from the Economics Department at Anadolu University Faculty of Economics in 2013. He worked for many years in the private sector in Planning and R&D Departments. His most recent position in the private sector was as Chief Planning Engineer. Hasan Ongan also continued to teach Physics and Mathematics. After leaving the private sector in 2009, he worked at various schools and tutoring centres. In November 2012, he established his own educational website. Through this site, he shares his subject explanations, questions, and solutions with students. His special interests have been Astronomy and Astrophysics since university. He also served as Chairman of the Board of the Amateur Astronomy Society at university. In November 2023, he founded a peer-reviewed academic journal called OPS Journal and began organising OPSCON conferences.
